I’ve been teaching A-Level Geography for eight years, both in school and through private tuition. Human geography is probably my favourite side of the course, particularly migration, globalisation and changing places. I spend quite a lot of lesson time on essay planning because knowing the content is only half the battle. We also work through past papers so students get used to what longer questions are really asking.

Geography clicked for me once I stopped treating it as a subject where you simply memorise case studies. That is how I teach it now. I’ve tutored A-Level Geography for five years and like using news stories, maps and real examples to make topics such as hazards and development easier to understand. Nearer exams, I’m quite practical: lots of timed questions, marking together and looking at where extra marks can actually be found.

Hi! I’ve been tutoring A-Level Geography alongside my work in environmental research for the past four years. I’m a bit of a map nerd and particularly enjoy teaching hazards, ecosystems and anything involving fieldwork data. My lessons are fairly relaxed, but I do expect students to have a proper go at questions. We’ll often take a past-paper answer, mark it together and then rewrite the sections that could have been sharper.

My background is in urban geography, and I have six years of experience supporting A-Level Geography students online. I particularly enjoy the parts of the course dealing with cities, inequality and changing places because there is always something current to discuss. I help students organise case-study material without learning pages of notes by heart, and we practise building arguments that actually answer the wording of the question.

I started tutoring A-Level Geography while completing postgraduate study and have carried on ever since. Most of my students come to me for help with essays, case studies or physical geography topics they find hard to visualise. I tend to sketch diagrams as we talk, especially for rivers, coasts and atmospheric processes. Before exams we switch gears and focus closely on timing, command words and writing concise answers under pressure.

I currently teach Geography at secondary level and have worked with A-Level students for more than a decade. My particular interests are physical geography, especially coastal systems, water cycles and hazards. In tuition I usually identify gaps in subject knowledge first, then move onto application and extended responses. I’m also happy to spend an entire lesson pulling apart one difficult essay if that is where a student needs help.

"My son knew most of the Geography content but struggled to use case studies properly in his answers. His tutor showed him how to choose relevant examples and explain them clearly. His recent essays have been much stronger and he is feeling more confident about his exams."
Coralie|Parent of an A-Level Geography Student
"I was finding physical Geography difficult, especially when questions asked me to explain processes in detail. My tutor uses simple examples and diagrams that make everything easier to understand. I now feel much more comfortable answering longer exam questions."
Tobin|A-Level Geography Student
"My daughter needed some extra guidance with her Geography coursework and data analysis. Her tutor helped her understand how to organise her findings and evaluate the evidence independently. She is much more organised now and has made excellent progress."
